Modified loom to make bags from recycled plastic
The Centre of Environmental Engineering (CEE) has set up a modified loom which will be used to mak Swarovski Crystals e marketable items using recycled plastic. It was set up in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Hyderabad Karnataka in Gulbarga on Thursday.
Chairman of the Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board (HKDB) Amarnath Patil and Secretary Shalini Rajneesh Goel inaugurated the loom on the CEE premises.
Ms. Goel said that the installation of the loom cost Rs. 75,000, and the existing weaving units with some modifications could be used to use recycled plastic as a raw material.
The CEE will market the items produced.
Ms. Goel said that the experiment of the CEE elsewhere in the country to recycle waste and harmful plastic bags segregated from the solid waste generated in major cities had been very successful.
In Gujarat, the plastic recycling units established by non governmental organisations (NGOs) and women’s groups had not only solved the problem of waste plastic bags but also created employment opportunities for many.
She said that the CEE has a tie up with different marketing units throughout the country and the recycled plastic bags were in demand. Swarovski Crystals Altho Swarovski Crystals ugh the profit margin is limited, regular income could be ensured to people who start the units.
Ms. Goel and Mr. Patil said that the Gulbarga City Corporation had agreed to supply at least 50 kg of waste plasti Swarovski Crystals c bags every day to be recycled, after which attractive items would be manufactured.
Ms. Goel said that the Centre for Development of Hyderabad Karnataka would encourage women’s groups, weavers and NGOs in Gulbarga and other districts in Hyderabad Karnataka region to set up such looms.
