MLB prospects heading to Bangor

Anyone notice the number of pitchers the Red Sox farm teams have used so far this season? At Double A Portland Sea Dogs 29 pitchers, including some rehab stints by Sox pitchers but also some guys named Matty Ott and Nate StrizAt Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox 31 pitchers, including guys like Jose Contreras and Brandon Lyon who the Sox are taking a flyer on.

Young amateur golfer Sam Grindle from Deer Isle Stonington fired a 1 under par 68 in the last day of the GBO tournament. Only 11 pros shot a better score Saturday. Grindle’s 139 total (71 68) placed in a tie for 35th place and top amateur honors. Not bad for a guy just a month or so out of high schoolthe only amateur to win the GBO? Mark Plummer in 1979.

I think of all those young pro golfers just trying to make enough money to keep playing and maybe someday make it big on the PGA Tourthen I think of lefty high school pitcher Trey Ball, the No. 1 pick of the Red Sox in June and the $2.75 milli Swarovski Jewelry on dollar signing bonus he got.

One more golf note, just turned pro Ryan Gay from Pittston picked up his first few bucks as a pro 13th place at the GBO is worth $700. The New York Islanders have the most cap space $15,653,024 (and not likely to spend more). Good luck Garth Snow and Jack Capuano

The Tampa Bay Rays can’t keep up this pacecan they?

Just a wild thought would you unload the farm system in a blockbuster trade with the Phils that would bring Cliff Lee, Jonathan Papelbon and Michael Young to Fenway? Think about a top starter, a closer and a Swarovski Jewelry rental third baseman for a half dozen top prospects

The MPA so called “hands off” period be Swarovski Jewelry gins next Monday. Families rejoice!

We are less than two weeks away from the first New England Patriots preseason game and I am still trying to get past all Swarovski Jewelry that has happened in this tumultuous off seasonhow about you?

Remember this name Jonathan Schoop. Another Curacao kid who played at Mansfield Stadium in the SLWS in 2008 (Jurikson Profar was his teammate). At 21 years old, Schoop is the youngest player on the Orioles’ Triple A Norfolk team. He started the year in rookie ball and now is a middle infielder in Triple A trade bait perhaps for the O’s.

Think about Schoop, Profar, Xander Bogaerts (Sox) and Freddy Galvis (probably the next Phils second baseman SLWS Venezuela 2006) when the international event rolls into town in August.

When the Portland Sea Dogs and Harrisburg Senators played at the Futures at Fenway game Saturday, Bangor native Jon Kotredes got a chance to be in a big league dugout. Kotredes is the team trainer for Harrisburg. He helps with Bangor hockey during his winter off season, too.

By the way, Katahdin HS and UMaine grad Darren London is team trainer for the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Triple A club. London was named the 2012 International League Trainer of the Year.
